Moth Pests London Hertfordshire

Clothes Moth (Tineola Bilsselliella)

The clothing moth is a species of Moths from the Tineidae moth family. The caterpillar (larva) of this moth is recognized as a serious pest. It can derive nourishment not only from clothing – in particular wool – and also, like most moth caterpillars, from many other sources.

How do you know if you have them?

The clothes moth is a significant pest, the larvae feeding on a wide variety of material of animal origin such woollens, angora, cashmere and furs. Damage from larval feeding can be severe and the larvae are often difficult detect as they shun the light. Outdoors, adults are on the wing from May to September. Indoors, adults are found all year round.

In domestic properties obvious signs of infestation are damage to clothes and carpets especially around the edges.

Problems caused by Moths

The clothing moth, or actually the caterpillar (larva) of this moth, is well known as a serious pest. It can feed not only from clothing (wool in particular) but also from many other sources.

Pest control treatment for Moths Call 0203 600 0401

As with most of our pest control treatments, we usually do two visits as a follow up visit allows us to make sure any actions we take are successful. Our fully trained pest control technician starts by talking to you about the problems you are having before assessing the situation.  Please be aware that the pest controller will often need to inspect other areas and not just the visible source.

Once the source of infestation has been located, the pest controller with remove and destroying any infested materials. They will then apply a residual insecticide to all infested areas. An additional ultra-low volume application of insecticide is often applied.

Moths are fairly easy to treat as long as the treatment is carried out thoroughly and every possible larva development site is treated. They can often be found in nests so any possible source by these should be checked when tracing the infestation.

As with all our treatments, the pest control technician will leave a report with you with details of any treatments and recommendations.  If a follow up visit is likely to be needed, our technician will arrange a suitable date and time with you. Generally this will be about a week or two later and sometimes a second treatment is required.
